He married Kristina L. Harris (Reeve) on July 7, 1990, whom he met in El Sobrante, California while working for the California Conservation Corps (Bay Area Center) in 1989 and has two sons, Tanin M. Harris born in 1992 and Kevin M. Harris born in 1994.

Companion Harris worked for his father as a teenager. In 1988 he moved to California where he worked emergency response for the CCC (California Conservation Corps) where he was forest fire and flood certified. Tracy was assigned to crew 3 at the Bay Area Center located in Richmond, California where they cut fire lines for the State Forestry dept, planted trees, and helped to build new city parks. During that time, the Loma  Prieta earthquake happened in 1989 where he performed emergency response and security for the people of San Francisco in the Marina Dist. After marrying Kristina in Oakland CA, he returned to Illinois and started working for the Olin Corporation, Ordinance and Tactical Systems Division in Marion IL.
